What is the Child Tax Credit (CTC)?

The Child Tax Credit is intended to help offset the tremendous costs of raising a child or children. If you qualify, the Child Tax Credit can be worth up to $1,000 per child. Contact us to find out if you are eligible.

Earned Income Credit (EIC):

If you are a filer who normally receives earned income credit (EIC), and are claiming one or more children, there is specific information and documentation that is required.

Failure to provide what is required can and will result in the IRS denying and or reducing your refund. The IRS is thoroughly checking returns for fraud and should they investigate, we are obligated to assist with the investigation via the information you provide.

A major part of EIC is proof of dependent’s residency (needs to be same as filer for at least six months during the tax year being filed).

For proof of dependent’s residency, you can provide one or more of the following:

  • School records or statements
  • Landlord or property management statement
  • Health care provider statement
  • Medical records
  • Child care provider records
  • Placement agency statement
  • Social service records or statement
  • Place of worship statement
  • Other documentation

For disabled dependents, you can provide one or more of the following:

  • Doctor statement
  • Other health care provider statement
  • Social services agency or program statement
  • Other documentation

Should You Call the IRS?

The IRS issues most refunds in less than 21 days, although some require additional time. You should only call if it has been:

  • 21 days or more since you e-filed
  • 6 weeks or more since you mailed your return, or when
“Where’s My Refund” tells you to contact the IRS

Taxpayers who claim the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child

Tax Credit may experience a refund hold.

According to the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act, the IRS cannot issue these refunds before mid-February. The IRS expects the earliest EITC/ACTC related refunds to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or debit cards starting February 27, 2018, if these taxpayers chose direct deposit and there are no other issues with their tax return.

– A VALID, UNEXPIRED ID, or Driver’s License is required to Electronically File (E-File) taxes starting Jan 1, 2017.
